Online Marketplace, Shopping and Rental Scams
Never let a bargain or fear of losing a deal eliminate normal verification.
- Watch for fake payment confirmations, overpayment, requests to ship before payment clears, fake escrow services, counterfeit goods, unusually low prices and requests to move payment outside the platform.
- Rental scams may use copied listings and demand deposits before a legitimate showing or lease process.
- Use platform protections when available and independently verify ownership, business identity and payment instructions.
