Job, Gig and Work-From-Home Scams
Before accepting a job, independently verify the employer, domain, recruiter and role. Never forward money because a recruiter tells you to.
- Fake jobs may promise unusually high pay for little work, skip normal interviews, use messaging apps exclusively, or ask applicants to pay for equipment or training.
- Fake employers may send a check and ask you to buy equipment, return money or forward funds.
- Criminals may recruit victims as money mules by asking them to receive and move money through personal accounts.
- A legitimate employer should not require your personal bank account to function as its payment-processing system.
