Family Emergency and 'Mom/Dad/Grandparent' Impersonation
Call the relative using a known number. A family verification phrase can add another layer.
- A scammer may claim to be a relative with a lost phone or urgent emergency.
- The scammer may request bail money, medical expenses, gift cards, cash, cryptocurrency or a wire transfer.
- Voice cloning and compromised messaging accounts can make impersonation more convincing.
